Blog Post #12: Lumio in the Classroom

 

Why Lumio: I first heard about Lumio a few weeks ago in Mr. Wang's 462 technologies class. I was very impressed with Lumio's advanced organizational capabilities and tools. I felt this was a tool that I would benefit significantly from using within my own classroom in the future. I chose this tool as I saw the positive impact that it could potentially have on my journey as an Elementary teacher, especially during my first year of teaching!

What is Lumio: Lumio is a digital learning app that assist teachers in creating a detailed, interactive, and visually appealing content to share/present to their students. Teachers can use Lumio to create lessons, assessments, content reviews, and much more. It turns the classroom into collaborative experiences that build classroom community and engagement. 

Use & Complexity level: Lumio is user friendly! It's very versatile, allowing students to collaborate and test their knowledge in a fun and competitive way. While allowing teachers to present content in a light and interactive way that enhances learning outcomes. It has a low level of complexity, it's designed to be intuitive and enhance existing content to be more exciting. 

Versatility: Lumio is versatile, as mentioned it's fit for a variety of classroom situations and projects for both students and teachers. It fosters collaborative learning, while providing a space for remote learning and self-paced learning for students. 

Classroom use of Lumio: There are many advantages to using Lumio within the classroom for its educational purposes. It increases student engagement, helps teachers create interactive content, allows for feedback, modifies classwork to assist all students, and much more! 

Connection(s): 

S- replaces traditional worksheets/lessons with digital slides & activities students can psychically engage with.

M- teachers can redesign lessons and make them more collaborative, allowing for time to share and interact with activities.

A- enhances learning features such as embedded videos, polls, and formative assessments and provide instant feedback.

R- enable entirely new learning experiences that are student-centered and combine media, live participation, and global sharing while building media literacy.
