Blog Post #11: Canva in the Classroom


Why Canva: Canva is a multifaceted tool that can be utilized in the classroom as well as across various organizations and professions. It's a tool that facilitates effective collaboration and engagement within the classroom. I have been able to use Canva in the past to complete assignments and projects. It's due to my personal experience with the tool that I chose to incorporate into my classroom tool collection. 

What is Canva: Canva is an online organizational tool that allows users to create a variety of visual content. It simplifies graphic design tools so that they're accessible and easy to navigate for a wider range of individuals. The platform offers thousands of customization templates that are sure to fit any occasion or situation. It offers numerous illustrations, photos, and media guides. Fit for presentation slides, info-graphics, posters, resume, videos, documents, and social media graphics.

Use & Complexity level: This site is extremely user friendly! Fit for all ages, educational levels, and professions. It's drag-and-drop editor makes it easy to create designs quickly and efficiently. Canva also allows for imports from external sources to ensure your design is made just right. The design tools are self-explanatory and templates easy to filter through, there are also AI features to help boost creativity if needed. 

Versatility: This platform is VERY versatile! It can help users create appealing content to share ideas with others, through presentations, posters, posts, and similar features users can collaborate creatively. While there is an upgraded subscription that allows access to more tools at a monetary price user can opt for the free version of the site that is just as bountiful in its offerings. Canva can be very beneficial for educational and professional settings. The tool's free plan is useful for teachers and students! Teachers can create lesson plans, content graphics, classroom posters, and much more. While students can fulfill assignments, create interactive content related to materials, and much more!

Connection(s): Canva is an example of how AI and technology in general helps enhance human creativity, communication, collaboration, and learning. It connects to the SMAR framework by substituting traditional hand drawn designs with digital ones, this also ensures equal opportunity for creative expression as it sets everyone at the same level of creative ability. Through augmentation the quality of easy-to-use templates and tools is improved. With modification, students are able to collaborate online and in-person to share presentations and content related materials. Through the redefinition level, Canva allows for new tasks, such as designing digital portfolios, infographics, or media campaigns that reach the entire classroom or even school.

    Hi Kimberly!
    I love using Canva for many reasons, but the biggest is because of the clean and nice templates it gives. I feel like Canva templates draw students attention more compared to a regular PowerPoint presentation. I will definitely be using this in my future classroom! Great job!

I have used SurveyMonkey within multiple classes and educational settings.   Why Padlet: Padlet is an education online tool. It is for online class collaboration practices. I chose Padlet because it's a tool I've personally used in the classroom as a student. The times I have used the tool I've found it to be easy and effective when it comes to use and purpose.
