Blog Post #10: SurveyMoney in the Classroom

Why SurveyMonkey: SurveyMonkey is an online platform that can be used to facilitate an inclusive environment for all students. I have used SurveyMonkey within multiple classes and educational settings. I chose this site for its adaptability within the classroom and benefits to support CRT.

What is SurveyMonkey: This is a platform that allows users to create, distribute, and analyze surveys and forms. It collects feedback and creates a space for voters to share their thoughts and opinions on important topics anonymously. It has a variety of tools for users to apply, such as free survey templates, quizzes, and online survey software. It's a site that helps organize and build products that will be marketed or impact a group of people, ensuring the product is able to engage a range of customers or members.

Use & Complexity level: This site is very user friendly. It's free and accessible to people of all ages and professions, allowing users to use pre-made templates if they don't know how to arrange a survey of their own or need a quick survey to implement in the moment. While some plans require the user to pay for access it also provides plans that are free for all users.

Versatility: This site is very versatile! It can be used to engage a variety of ages and professional members. It ensures everyone's input is valued, considered, and respected. It helps ensure content is being retained while also building an uplifting classroom or professional community. This can be used for a variety of tasks, from simple polls to more complex quizzes and data collection.

Classroom use of SurveyMonkey: It ensures all members of the targeted community are valued and engaged. SurveyMonkey is used to assess student understanding and gauge classroom comprehension! It opens the floor for feedback that facilitates an interactive environment meant to produce a healthy classroom. It allows for knowledge assessment, feedback, collaborations, data collection, encourages critical thinking, and promotes an interactive learning environment.

Connection(s): This site connects to the SMAR framework! It replaces paper surveys with digital ones and adds an extra lay of anonymity to polls and surveys (substitution).  It allows for instant data collection and analysis (augmentation). Teachers are able to redesign tasks/topics at hand based on feedback and customize activities based on the surveys (modification). SurveyMonkey allows for new learning experiences, fostering deeper student engagement and data literacy (redefinition).

  1. Hi Kimberly!
I like you post about Survey Monkey! I have many professors using this, so it is fun to get an idea of how to use it. I like how you added that it can be used to data collection and feedback, not just assessment. Great job in your connection to the classroom with the SMAR framework!

  2. Hi Kim! I love your post. This current class is the only time I have ever used this technology, but it has been a good technology for certain situations in this class. I don't know if I will use this technology because I think there are easier in person surveys to use.
