Blog Post #3: Zoom in the Classroom
Why Zoom: Zoom is a convenient and resourceful tool that can be applied in various settings, including the classroom. I chose Zoom from professor Wang's instructional media list titled "Week 3 Day 1 T3PP Technologies."
What is Zoom: Zoom is an online platform which creates a space for individuals to meet and collaborate. It has various features for people to chat and share content. Within the classroom this tool has provided a space to further students education remotely and in-person. The app has played a crucial role in keeping schools connected with their students and continuing their education through live instruction.
Use & Complexity level: Zoom is very easy to navigate for all users. It can be used through any device as long as there's an internet connection. The app has a self-explanatory dashboard that demonstrates all the available collaboration tools and communications services. Whether you're the one setting up the meeting or joining in Zoom makes it easy to set up a profile and share your ideas.
Versatility: Zoom is VERY versatile! It can be used in the workplace or in the classroom, it suits any situation. It has numerous features that allow for individuals to introduce ideas, communicate, and receive instruction. Participants are able to chat, share content, record sessions, and engage with the materials being presented by others. It also allows users to break-off into isolated groups within a meeting and complete polls to gauge understanding or preferences. It builds community and facilitates an interactive environment, which is necessary in a learning environment.
Classroom use of Zoom: Zoom has been heavily utilized by millions of educators around the world! During the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic it was instrumental in keeping students on track in their educational journey. It allowed teachers to continue providing students with detailed and interactive instruction from the safety of their home. Zoom is used to create a dynamic and collaborative learning environment for students no matter their physical location. It can essentially be used as a virtual classroom!
Connection(s): Zoom connects to all three TLC tiers; Planning, Assessing, and Instruction. It allows students and educators to share ideas through tools such as screen sharing, chat rooms, and polling. Users can assess learning or retention of content being shared by other users through in-meeting quizzes, questions, and polls. Zoom's entire purpose is to provide a space for instruction and content collaboration. It allows users to record meetings to revisit and review.
