Blog Post #1: Canvas in the Classroom

Why Canvas: This is an educational technology that is useful within the classroom setting. I chose this site from professor Wang's "Week 3 Day 1 T3PP Technologies" slideshow presentation.

What is Canvas: Canvas is an educational tool used by educators of all grade levels, it's commonly used in secondary and college classrooms. Educators can publish course work for students to complete and materials for students to cover independently. It has numerous features to keep students on track and organized. Canvas also allows instructors to provide feedback and communicate important announcements to students.

Use & Complexity level: Canvas is an easy site to navigate! Students are able to see all the classes they're currently enrolled in and select which one they want to get started on. Each course has a module section that gives students an overview of the material and work that will be covered for the week. It also lets students set notifications and reminders on assignments, as well as communicate with instructors and peers.

Versatility: Canvas is very versatile, allowing students to complete work in an organized and detailed manner. While allowing teachers to structure class material and course work in an effective manner to reflect the classroom pace.

Classroom use of Canvas: Canvas is used to assist students and instructors in completion of class curriculum. It allows for feedback, communication, collaboration, and assessment evaluation.

Connection(s): Canvas connects to all three TLC tiers; Planning, Assessing, and Instructing. It allows for the sharing of ideas through discussion posts, building of online community, and creation of plans. Teachers can publish assessment tests for students to complete or knowledge checks of material through assignments. Teachers can also post instructional videos for students to view and revisit.
